Wormate.io: Grow Big, Cut Off Rivals, Eat Their Candy
Start Small, Think Sideways
Written by Riley Chen
The smartest way to beat a bigger worm is to wrap around it and let it crash into you. Wormate.io is a snake-style io game where you steer a worm around a huge arena and grow by eating colorful sweets like candy, donuts and cake. It’s a multiplayer game, so every other worm on the map is a real player who wants the same food and wants you to hit something first. You start small, you grow quickly if you stay out of trouble, and you stay alive by using your own body as the trap. That’s the whole idea, and it’s easier to learn than most games with a leaderboard.
The Two Controls You Need
- Mouse: steer your worm
- Left click: boost for a burst of speed, which costs you some length
That’s about it, which is why new players pick it up in a single round.
Who Made the Worm
Oleksandr Godoba launched Wormate.io in 2016, and it has stayed popular through gaming videos and a mobile version. Worm games get passed around a lot among unblocked Games at school, and this one has been in the mix longer than most. The worms have faces and a long list of skins, which gives it a more playful look than a plain snake game.
Eat, Trap, Repeat
You spend the early part of a match collecting sweets. Once you’re big enough, you can start trapping others by cutting across their path or looping around them so they run into your body. Whatever they were carrying drops as food, and you eat it to grow even bigger. There’s also a leaderboard, and a team mode if you’d rather play with friends than against everyone.
My longest early run ended when I boosted into a gap that closed behind me, and I went from fourth on the board to dead in about a second. That’s the most reliable way I know to learn when not to boost.
Why a Smiling Worm Makes Losing Easier
Here’s a tangent. Plain snake games look cold, so losing feels like a punishment. In this game the worms have cartoon faces and the arena is full of sweets, so getting trapped feels like a bad joke more than a defeat. It’s a small design choice, but it makes me hit play again after a loss without thinking about it. I’d guess that’s part of why the game has lasted so long.
Wormate.io Unblocked Fits in a Short Break
Wormate.io unblocked on a Chromebook works in a plain browser tab, and since there’s only a cursor and one boost button, you can learn the controls in the first minute and spend the rest on strategy. A round ends the moment you crash, so it fits between assignments without making you stay for a full match. It’s also easy to explain to a friend sitting next to you.
Five Coils for a Longer Run
Coil 1: Stay near food early and keep away from the edges, where bigger worms can pin you against the wall.
Coil 2: Boost in short bursts. Every burst costs you length, so save it for escapes and traps.
Coil 3: Learn the trap. Loop around a larger worm so it runs into your body, then eat what it drops.
Coil 4: Don’t chase every kill. Know when to push forward and when to wait for a safer chance.
Coil 5: After a trap, eat the dropped food quickly before another player gets to it.
More Worms, Different Rules
Little Big Snake is a multiplayer snake io game with missions, upgrades, skins and pets, where you still try to make rivals crash into your body.
Gulper.io is a neon-lit snake io game where you eat glowing bits and can boost without losing length.
Whichever one you open, the habit carries over: look for the gap before you boost. They’re live on unblockedgamesfree.com.
Slither Out While You’re Ahead
A good run in this game usually ends one of two ways: you cut someone off, or someone cuts you off. That sounds simple until you’re the one coiled in a corner with three worms closing in. The next time you start small, pick your spot, eat quietly and wait for the other player to blink. Wormate.io is at its best when you let the trap do the talking.
